Senior Member Group: Forum Members | Is it possible to make 3D characters such as dogs for example in Photoshop and export it as a obj format into 3d exchange and bone and rig it? Or what software could I use to make my animals? |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | There's also Archipelis - I haven't delved into it yet, but it allows you to turn a 2D image into a 3D model - I think there are a few people here who have used it with success in iClone. ---- |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | Also look at 123d by autodesk its a free modeler plus you can turn pictures into models for free to .. After saying that though and reading your other posts, you would still need to rig the model as well as model the mouth ... NOT a easy task .. You would do best by talking to someone like WILL VEEKE to model the dog .. I Make My Mates Do The CanCan For The Amusement Of Killer Robots Edited |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | I build many things with Archipelis. Houses, mountains and many other immote things. But also dinosaurs, or men. Archipelis makes obj files. With iClone Xchange i import those objects in iClone 5 with good (i think) results. Unfortunatly, iClone has not the function to apply (rig) bones to a prop. But it is possible reverse the concept and apply body parts to a skeleton. It is not the same thing, because the skeleton moves the applied parts but don't deform it. In certain cases, the system can go. If You want, look this film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Uqnbkv4vak I built the armor of Sigfried and some dinosaurs with this technique. Guido |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | Answer: no you can not use photoshop to create the dog mesh as object. yes you can use software such as archipelis to create the dog mesh from a goo quality 2D sideways picture. The best resolution for this picture is 1024 to 1024 (Soon there will be an archipelis V3 for a higher resolutions). In most cases you need to reshape and change the polygons from the model created with archipelis to get a good regular mesh for animation. If you want a dog with animations it is even more work. You have to create the 3d mesh with a 3d modeling program or use the obj foutputfile from archipelis(archipelis only provide a 3d object with medium resolution) You also need to create a bone structure or use an excisting one for this dog mesh. Then you have to rigg the bones and skin this mesh to these rigged bones. Then you have to create the animations or use excisting motions for this dog in a 3d program or Iclone. You can only use excisting motions for this dog if they are made for the bonestructure you use or if you can convert the excisting motions for your bones structure. If you need a talking dog, this is even more complex, because you need a lot of bones in the dog headmesh and tongh. Or at least bones in the jawn (for only open and close the mouth). Then you need to convert the model to an FBX file(best ver 2006). This Fbx file can be converted by a plugin(if you use 3d max) or through 3d exchange. You can convert the dog to a i-prop with built in motions(use the perform function in Iclone) or convert it to a non human creation with seperate motion files. The nonhuman has the possibility that you can edit and create motions in Iclone. For complex motions it is not easy to do it in Iclone. Complex motions in most cases are made with other 3d programs. If you have an i-prop (for iclone (not made with iclone 5) with builtin motions you can in most cases convert it to a non-human character with seperate motion with 3d exchange. I do not write so much tutorials here in the forum because my english is not my native language and please forgive me for the mistakes. I allways wanted to make some tutorials, but the english language kept me from doing it. Wil Wil Veeke-Reallusion Certified Content Developer Member of: The Content Wizards! Edited |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | Wil, I agree with sw00000p, don't hold back! We could learn from your expertise. Kurzal and Mike A. have done perfectly understandable tutorials and their native language isn't English either. |

Distinguished Member Group: Forum Members | Have a look at this thread. All the underlined text are links to a tutorial. The first two for Archipelis, the others are for max. Although it's in german, you can easily understand just by watching. ____________________________________________________________________ __________________________________ __________________________________ |
